Uploading Data Impression Mappings Files

Purpose

This article describes how to format and upload client and partner-level impression mapping data.

Mapping tool

The mapping tool in InnovidXP allows you to upload a mapping file to perform the following actions:

Action Example
Rename values in a column. Change Publisher from "A" to "A&E".
Map IDs to labels in a column. Change Clock ID "2492843" to "Creative Name".
Insert a value where there is no value. Where PlacementGroup is blank, insert "Unknown" or "Other".
Discard impressions based on specific criteria. Discard all impressions with a null publisher, or all impressions with the placement group "Fox", etc.
Indirectly rename impression fields. Rename the publisher field to "Discovery (Food & HGTV)" for all impressions with the network label set to a specific value.

Note: If a field that should display the creative name instead shows a creative ID, that change was made on the ad server side. Reach out to the ad server team to get a mapping of which ID corresponds to which name.

Formatting your file

You can upload the data in a flat CSV file. Ensure your file is cumulative, i.e., inclusive of all historical mappings.

The mapping tool in InnovidXP allows you to upload a mapping file to perform the following actions:

How should I format my impression data mappings file?
Include all required columns. Use special characters in the field value, e.g., !,@,%
Ensure all columns have a header. Mix data formats in a column.
Ensure headers and field values match those in the examples exactly, including case.

No overlapping dates with mappings in file

For example:
Date: 1/1 - 1/10
12345 -> change to Creative

Date: 1/4 - 1/10
12345 -> change to Creative B

Include only a header row and data within the file.
Avoid ambiguous dates. Use the format yyyy-mm-dd.
The mapping file must be cumulative. The last file will overwrite all preexisting data, so it is essential to always check for the most recent file uploaded.

  1. Create a file containing your current creative IDs, desired platform views, and publisher creative IDs, so we can upload the impression mapping with this information.

Uploading your file

Note: If your file is formatted incorrectly, it will not upload successfully. An error message will be displayed listing the reasons for the upload failure. Make the necessary changes to the file and try again. You can upload a client-level or partner-level file.

  1. Select Data > Impressions Upload Impression Mappings File (for client-level data) or Upload Partner Impression Mappings File (for partner-level data).

Top tips
  • If your file is formatted incorrectly, it will not upload successfully. An error message will be displayed listing the reasons for the upload failure. Make the necessary changes to the file and try again.
  • You can upload a client-level or partner-level file.
  • If you need to remove or update impressions older than 90 days, such as creatives uploaded more than 90 days ago, you must submit a ticket to Innovid for the necessary updates.
  • There is a 150-character limit for the names in the pivot. If the name for an ordinal is too long, that name won’t be fully displayed in the pivots.
  • Some of the mapped values have commas in the rows. This is because it is a CSV (comma-separated values) file, and the commas will separate the rest of the text into other rows, so it will not update correctly.
