Getting Started with Innovid Ad Serving Certification

Description: This article describes the process of Innovid's ad serving certification. This publisher certification ensures quality control of ad delivery and measurement across widely used tag types and devices. The process comprises a functional and discrepancy test to ensure all ads are rendered at their highest possible quality, all pixels are firing correctly, and reporting is as expected.

Note: The initial certification is a one-time process; however, if a publisher makes changes to their player or page set-up, Innovid should be alerted to determine whether or not the changes will require undergoing a recertification.

Why certification matters

As an independent ad server, Innovid wants to ensure the accuracy and quality of our ad delivery and measurement on behalf of our clients. Publisher certification before the campaign launch can reduce the number of data discrepancies and/or in-flight errors when rendering tags. This saves Innovid and our publisher partners time and face with our mutual advertiser clients. Certification is critical to maintaining industry-adopted Media Rating Council (MRC) standards, in which Innovid is accredited.

Important:

  • Innovid works with a wide range of publishers with unique setups, so publishers are responsible for sharing their tag requirements and macros during the certification process.
  • We may have previously certified other publishers that use the same ad server, but this does not mean that certification can be skipped. We treat every certification as unique, and this means we require all relevant information for each.

Self-service certification portal

The Innovid Certification Portal is a self-service platform for publishers to request certification to run Innovid tags on live campaigns. You can submit requests to certify any supported tag format, add macros and specification requirements, adjust profiles, and follow the status of the certifications.

Steps to start the certification

The following outlines the steps to start a certification.

Step 1 Sign up

  1. Access the Innovid Certification Portal.
  2. Select the Sign Up link.

  3. Complete the registration form and select the Submit button.
  4. A confirmation email is sent when the registration is complete.
Note: Innovid will reject email aliases or Gmail emails for security purposes.

Step 2 Submit a request in Innovid Ad Serving

  1. Select New in the Ad Serving Certification tab to view the New Certification pop-up.

  2. If this is a new inventory certification, select New Certification.
    OR
Select Renewal Certification to retest an existing certified inventory.

Step 3 Complete the form

  1. Complete the form

Note: A request must be submitted for each tag type inventory separately so Innovid can test and provide feedback for each tag format.
  2. Disregard the questions unrelated to the inventory being certified. For example, if you certify video inventories (VAST, VPAID, or ICTV), the Display or Audio sections do not need to be completed.

Step 4 Provide additional information

  1. Add any important information for the test in the Additional information field.

    For example:

    • “We don’t support clicks or quartiles.”
    • “We do not count impressions on begin to render.”
    • “We are unable to provide a test page.”
    • “We don’t use an ad server to publish the ads."
  2. If you have live Innovid tags and use the live campaign for the certification, note it in the Additional information textbox. The Innovid live tags and a report with the live campaign numbers must be sent. This includes all dates, impressions, and clickthroughs or quartiles (if applicable).
  3. Use the Additional information textbox to advise of any macros you want to add to the tags.

Step 5 Submit the form

  1. Select Save to submit the form.
  2. After you have submitted the form, a confirmation email will be sent to you.
  3. The Innovid support team will email you the test tags and the next instructions for the certification process
Note: If you are using a live campaign for certification, we will start certification as soon as you can provide the live tags and a report with your recorded impressions counts.

The certification test

To ensure the certification test is complete, you must complete the requirements in the table below:

Requirement Description
Functional testing Send a test page link to Innovid to demonstrate how the tags perform in a live environment. If any geo-restrictions are applied, provide 5 locations that could be used.
Metrics comparison

Run an impression test with the tags provided, and run 1000+ impressions per tag.

Note: DSP’s must run 2000-5000 impressions.

Once the target impression goal is reached, send the reporting. This includes impressions, clicks, and quartiles broken out by day.

Note: Some metrics don't apply to all tag types (video, audio, or display). Impressions, clicks, and quartiles apply to video and audio, but only clicks and impressions apply to the display.

Publisher Profile

Complete or update the information requested in your account profile. This should help describe your type of business and what can be supported.

Note: This needs to be done for the certification to be complete, however, it can be at any point during the certification process.

Access your account in the Publisher Profile tab in the Certification Portal.

Note: If you cannot perform the above test, contact your Innovid representative.

Requirements to complete certification

Top tips
  • Impressions for video ads are measured when the ad begins to render, in line with IAB standards. For display ads, an impression is counted once the advert has been fully rendered. Regarding site-served display ads, we only measure tracked ads, which will be counted at a minimum when the advert is downloaded.
  • Impression counts must align within a 10% discrepancy between the Publisher and Innovid.
  • Publisher Profile must have the required information updated.
